The most powerful means of influence....

Okay....Please forgive me..I really shouldn't be away this long! Sometimes life goes so fast, you forget to take time to be STILL. I have so much to write to you about. But let's start this slow.

I recently was in the office of a legendary TV & Film producer. It was amazing being in that office. I was greeted at the door with a wall full of their emmy's and other awards. It was inspiring to say the least. And I began to imagine how much work each of those awards (big and small) represented. This, like any other buisness is one that demands your time and your energy. She knows if you are faking your committment, and she doesn't like to share you. But when she rewards you, it can be the greatest gift to effect audiences and influence a generation of people. One of my favorite quotes is by the great actor and coach, Constantin Stanislavski. He said, "Art is a pulpit which is the most powerful means of influence." We as actors, producers, writers and creators effect cultures and societies more than any political figure or laws. Art influences the individual and stays with them for a lifetime.

I feel honored to be an artist. I feel honored that anyone wants to watch my work. Sometimes I have to step back and say, wow...they really want to see me and watch something I've written? It's a great honor to have one person by a movie ticket or theater ticket, watch a television or even click on a web show, to experience your work. I am humbled each time I think of it.

And like that legendary producer, who's walls were filled with awards, I can't help to think how honoring it is to inspire and influence the world....

If the door isn't open, knock it down!

Watch this video from The Hollywood Reporter's, Director's Roundtable. Afro-British Director, Steve McQueen (who i'm a big fan of) talks about how shameful it is that American directors don't cast Black Actors. The other directors in the discussion then go silent.. I'm actually encouraged by this video. There are so many talented filmmakers creating opportunities for themselves and it's time for change.. and rest assured, change sho' gon' come.

Hey guys...I'm assuming people will actually read this=) Or maybe I should pretend like no one will...then I can be my most authentic self. I love to write and I miss having an online journal. When I first started this site years ago, I had a journal. I took it off because it became too time consuming...and a little too personal! But, I was moved this morning to start this again. It's Thanksgiving, and I HAVE MUCH to be thankful for. Actually, gratitude is one of my favorite places to be...I keep a gratitude journal daily. I'm constantly reminded how far I've come, and I get overwhelmed with gratitiude. Wow...if you only knew! We'll get into that...I'm sure;) I get much questions on my facebook, email and twitter about advice on acting, producing, dancing and pursuing your DREAMS. I hope this blog post can be a source of INSPIRATION for you and allow me to speak directly with you! I'm very thankful for what God has done and IS doing in my life.
